Ultherapy:
The following are some recommendations to maximize your comfort during the procedure:

  1. A half-hour (1/2) prior to the procedure, take ibuprofen 800 mg or another analgesic.
  2. Bring an MP3 player or iPod, as listening to music may be helpful during the procedure.
  3. Please inform the Ultherapist if you have any neck problems/complaints that may make it difficult to turn your head from side to side or lift your chin.
  4. Cold compresses should NOT be applied to the treated area before or after treatment.
  5. Discontinue skincare products containing retinoids, including tretinoin, glycolic acid, or hydroquinone for several days after treatment, as these may cause irritation.
  6. You may resume normal activity the next day.

Day of Treatment

  • Arrive to the office with a “clean face.” Please do not wear make-up.
  • To maximize your comfort during the procedure, a topical anesthetic may be applied. If you are allergic to benzocaine, tetracaine, lidocaine, PABA or latex, please inform your doctor. In some cases, a local numbing agent will be injected into or around the area(s) to be treated.
  • You may experience a mild amount of tenderness or a stinging sensation following injection.
  • To ensure a smooth and even correction, you doctor may massage the area(s) treated, which may cause a temporary, minimal amount of redness to your skin.
  • Expect to use cold packs off-and-on for 1 to 2 hours after treatment, and avoid strenuous activities for 24 hours.

Sculptra® is prepared for you 48 hours prior to the date of treatment and has a brief shelf life. Due to this reason, cancellation must be received before 12:00 pm at least three business days prior to your appointment.

Treatments that require numbing cream:

  • Apply a thin layer of anesthetic cream (like peanut butter on bread) to the treatment area, then cover with plastic wrap and reapply as needed OR reapply every 10–15 minutes, if plastic wrap is not used. Anesthetic cream should be applied at least 1½–2 hours prior to treatment. Good anesthesia generally occurs within 45 minutes and lasts for a couple of hours.
  • DO NOT wash off anesthetic cream or remove plastic wrap prior to arriving in the office. New safety precaution requires that you wear a face mask in the office. The plastic wrap will protect your mask from the anesthetic cream. We will have you wash the area prior to treatment.
  • For full-face treatment, apply the cream to the skin of the face, starting at the hairline, to the ears, the nose, down to the jawline and chin. Avoid the eyelids and lips. LMX 15- and 30-gram tubes are sufficient to cover the entire face for 2–4 treatments; LMX 5-gram tube is sufficient to cover cheeks and temples for 1 treatment.
  • Please notify the physician or staff member if you have any ointment or cream allergies. This cream should not be used on broken skin.
