How does SculpSure work?

The SculpSure system delivers controlled laser light through a noninvasive procedure that delivers light at 1060 nanometers to the treatment areas. This particular wavelength penetrates the skin with minimal absorption, delivering energy to the adipose tissue layer, where the body stores fat. In a 25-minute treatment, the tissue in the fat layers warms five to 10 degrees Celsius above body temperature, triggering a reaction in the body’s natural healing system.

The body perceives the warmed fat cells as damaged and starts to remove them. These tissues are gradually flushed from the body through the lymphatic system, with results usually seen by six weeks, and maximum improvement showing at about 12 weeks. These fat cells are not replaced by the body unless you undergo a major weight gain at some point in the future, therefore, SculpSure results are typically permanent.

What parts of the body does SculpSure benefit?

SculpSure is cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for spot reduction of fat tissue around the belly, love handles, back, and both inner and outer thighs. It’s important to note that SculpSure is a fat loss method, not a weight loss method. The best candidates for treatment are at or near their ideal body weight, with stubborn accumulations of body fat that resist efforts of diet and exercise.

What can I expect during a SculpSure treatment?

The SculpSure device has four treatment heads, which can be used all in one area or split into a couple of areas during a single treatment. Though your appointment lasts longer, the actual SculpSure treatment takes about 25 minutes. The sensation of the active laser during treatment is described by many as a tingling.

Once the treatment is complete, you’re able to resume your day with no recovery time needed. If there are any mild side effects, it’s most likely due to laser energy absorption into the skin surrounding the treatment area. This produces symptoms similar to mild sunburn, which will pass within a day or two.

The number of treatments needed depends on your body-sculpting goals. Dr. Matsuda and Dr. Sheu discuss an individualized treatment plan with you before your first session.
